To mark National Careers Week 2022, we’re lifting the lid on your most burning questions about apprenticeships. We offer trade apprenticeships annually (hurry, the deadline for this year is the end of May!).
1. “What exactly is an apprenticeship?”
Apprenticeships are a great way to start your career. They are an opportunity to gain a recognised qualification while earning a salary and learning on the job. Our Trade Apprenticeships are an excellent opportunity to learn the skills needed for electrical or mechanical trades. You will split your time between attending college to learn the theory, and working on-site to apply your theoretical knowledge and gain practical experience.
2. “What grades do I need to get an apprenticeship?”
You will need a GCSE in Maths and English, at Grade 4/C or above (or an equivalent). So, don’t worry too much if you didn’t get all the grades you wanted in your exams. What’s more important to us is commitment, ambition and a positive attitude.
3. “How much will I earn?”
Rates are set based on the National Agreement. In your first year as a junior apprentice, you can expect to earn £6.26 per hour, moving up to £12+ per hour for a senior apprentice. This applies to the apprentices being paid weekly, we also have monthly-paid apprentices whose rates will vary slightly.
4. “How long will it last?”
Our programmes combine theory and practice and can take between 12 months to 4 years to complete, depending on your qualifications and experience. Once you complete your apprenticeship, you will receive a nationally recognised qualification.
5. “What happens once I’ve completed it?”
Once you complete your apprenticeship, we will review your progress and if successful, offer you full-time employment. We really want our apprentices to succeed, so we will help you to build your career so that you can reach your full potential.
We’re a family-owned business who genuinely care about the success of our team. So, gaining an apprenticeship with Gratte Brothers could be the best thing you ever do for your career.
