As the Design and Development Manager for Gratte Brothers Security Management Limited (GBSM), Dan O’Brien is a market-leading expert in the design of integrated security solutions. He supports GBSM and the wider Group to deliver technical solutions and innovative advancements to our software. Dan stays ahead of the market and will test the latest innovations to make sure they deliver value for our end users. It’s not often that an integrator has the ability to influence the development of the software they develop and deliver like we do, making Gratte Brothers truly unique. Our clients have direct contact with Dan to troubleshoot, get information and receive product support—through this, Dan is able to design and deliver effective solutions to any issues that arise.
Dan started his career as an apprentice with a national security systems provider where he gained an electrical qualification. He then moved to a high-end integrator as a junior engineer, progressing to service engineer and eventually launched his own company at the age of 24.
Having worked with Gratte Brothers as a subcontractor for several years, Dan was aware of our reputation and commitment to quality. So, when the opportunity arose to join the team permanently as a Design Solutions Executive in 2019, Dan was more than happy to accept. Prior to Gratte Brothers, Dan built and ran his own company for 8 years, admitting that part of the appeal of joining GBSM was the stability and peace of mind that comes with an established firm like ourselves.
Dan and his team work directly with clients to deliver solutions that are tailored to their needs. Additionally, Dan works to distil the underlying cause of any technical issue a client may encounter. Once the root cause is identified, Dan is able to advise the best course of action. Our long-lasting client relationships are testament to the quality service and recommendations we provide—always looking to deliver the best, most cost effective and long-lasting solution.
Some of Dan’s recent projects include the portable access control unit that was designed in-house during the Covid-19 pandemic. This device makes it possible for sites to quickly and cost-efficiently customise, adapt and upscale their number of access control units, and move them from site to site with minimal fuss. Staff members are able to tap in and out using their regular access cards, with their entry and exit logged as normal.
Dan also plays a key role in providing technology-based solutions to aid the development of the TARGET security platform delivered by software development company CCSG. The platform is fully customisable and works to integrate the clients’ security devices onto one platform where incidents can be easily identified, tracked and recorded.
Dan commented that; “It’s my priority to make sure I’m always delivering the most innovative solutions to customers. Having worked with security integrators for my entire career, I know how beneficial it is to be able to adapt the technology in-house, working directly with the client to deliver exactly what they need. Adaptability is particularly important within the security industry as all clients have bespoke requirements that are not always met by off-the-shelf products.”
