Last year, we were delighted to sponsor 12 rowers from the University of Liverpool who competed in the Boston Rowing Marathon to raise money for Claire House Children’s Hospice and their boat club. The gruelling challenge involved a mixed 8 and men’s coxed 4 rowing 50km (31 miles) downstream along the River Witham, from Lincoln to Boston Boat Club.
The mixed 8 finished with a time of 4 hours 39 minutes 53 seconds and the men’s coxed 4, a completed time of 4 hours 15 minutes 12 seconds, making them the fastest crew of the day and worthy of the trophy.
Claire House Children’s Hospice helps seriously and terminally ill children live life to the full by creating wonderful experiences for them which bring a sense of normality to their family lives. The Boat Club were privileged enough to be given a tour around the grounds of Claire’s House to gain a first-hand insight into the wonderful work they do and to motivate them in their challenge.
After surpassing the initial target of £500 in the first week, the club soon increased their target and raised a final amount of £947. Well done team!
