We're committed to safeguarding the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff and work colleagues. Everyone is entitled to a safe working environment and to return home safely at the end of each day. To ensure this, we strive to provide working environments that are safe and without risk to health.
Our Strategy
Our strategy is created around the core components of values, engagement and leadership.
Values
Our values are the golden thread that runs through every Gratte Brothers operation. Our values keep our teams united by letting them know what’s expected of them.
Engagement
We ensure and encourage good health & safety interactions with our employees, clients and supply chain.
Leadership
We encourage our people to set positive examples and provide a high level of leadership.
Safety is the primary consideration
in everything we do.
- David Gratte
SafetyFirst
Our SafetyFirst programme has been running since 2012 and is based around the Group Managing Director, David Gratte’s commitment that “Safety is the primary consideration in everything we do.” The programme is centred on engagement with the workforce and includes:
A workforce health and safety forum
An employee comment card scheme
Site Safety Representatives
A regular health and safety quiz to raise awareness of the various aspects of site health and safety
Engagement with health & safety initiatives is always encouraged at Gratte Brothers. The newest addition being the ‘Behavioural Safety Leaderboard‘ implemented by Health & Safety Advisor, Stephen Murray at one of our sites.
Mental Wellbeing
Just as we have SafetyFirst as an initiative dedicated to safeguarding the physical health of our employees, we also have a dedicated initiative for mental wellbeing: Reach Out
Reach Out represents a network of individuals, resources and infrastructure that combines to raise awareness and provide support to Gratte Brothers employees. Most crucially, Reach Out is a phone number which connects callers to help. This help comes in the form of our most experienced Mental Health First Aiders, the Employee Assistance Programme (of which we are members), or Samaritans. The choice of which support to be connected to lies with the caller. The phone number is advertised on the Intranet, and on posters around our offices and site offices.
We have a team of over 20 trained Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) across the Group. These are all volunteers who undertook training alongside their day jobs to be that port of call for anyone in need of help. We have a Mental Health Steering Committee who act as a bridge between the MHFA team and the Group Directors. This committee raise solutions to improve our offering, monitor the mental health of our own MHFAs, and oversee the further development of the initiative.
Another pillar of our internal wellbeing culture is our Mental Wellbeing policy. In line with our core values, we are committed to continual improvement. So, we look forward to continuing to improve upon our Mental Health infrastructure throughout the months and years to come.
Health & Wellbeing
We take mental health just as seriously as we take physical health. As such, 2024 saw us publish our first ever wellbeing policy. Although the values and standards outlined within the policy have been existing cultural norms within Gratte Brothers for some time already, this policy publicly reaffirms our commitment to improving internal structures and processes to support the mental wellbeing of our staff.
Director's Site Visits
Our Senior Leadership Team plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HS&W) via regular site visits across all Group companies. All directors are encouraged to visit operations from various divisions (not just their own). This creates the opportunity to observe, learn, and share best practices regarding HS&W at all levels within the business and facilitate Group-wide communication. With regional offices and operations stretching across the country, this initiative provides a platform for ‘cross-pollination’ of HS&W practices. Through doing this, we aim to gain the consultation and participation of the entire workforce, regardless of location, as well as evidencing our commitment to ensuring everyone’s health, safety and wellbeing at Gratte Brothers.
Accreditations
We take health & safety seriously, which is why we are proud to hold a comprehensive range of industry-leading accreditations and quality certificates.
These certifications demonstrate our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and environmental responsibility in all our services. From ISO certifications to memberships with recognised industry bodies, our credentials ensure that every project we undertake meets rigorous safety and quality benchmarks, providing peace of mind to our clients and a safe working environment for our team.
