Landsec, the UK’s largest commercial property development and investment Company, relocated their Head Office to the Cardinal Place development in London Victoria in 2016. Gratte Brothers was the Electrical Contractor for the Cat B fit-out and installed the integrated security systems.

Echoing the underground infrastructure that runs through the basement of Cardinal place, Land Securities opted to keep the Services of the building on display. Gratte Brothers was appointed electrically to install Low Voltage distribution, lighting, power – including associated works to Basement and Roof Levels, containment, UPS, metering, earthing, Fire Alarms, CCTV, Access Control and power supplies to the mechanical equipment. The installation was split between the 2 buildings: 80 and 100 Victoria which, were bridge linked at Level 1.

To meet the exacting requirements of this exposed Fit-Out, Gratte Brothers opted to install using ‘plug and play’ technology requiring a fastidious pre-construction period. This preparation was mirrored in the pre-fabrication of the containment. All tray plates were powder coated prior to arriving on site. Precise installation was required to avoid damage to the final finish.

Gratte Brothers, with vast Data Centre experience is used to working with exposed services and has invested in prefabrication workshops in order to maximise project efficiency. Gratte Brothers was able to ensure the quality of the finish by ensuring the same Supervisor and the same Electricians, installed every component of the ceiling run.

Gratte Brothers Security Systems & Software was also appointed to deliver the integrated security systems within this prestigious development. The installation included a an access control system to 250 doors, an intruder alarm/door monitoring system to 550 doors and windows and a CCTV system of 200 cameras, which utilised bespoke digital recording facilities. Cutting edge systems and products were sourced to achieve the high level finish and all systems were set on a twisted pair cable infrastructure with operators viewing the images on new DLP monitor technology

The site team routinely attended walkarounds with both the Main Contractor and the client to ensure that it was the client’s standards that were being met. This collaborative approach has resulted in the building achieving a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
