A new lease of life was required for a London school that wished to maximise opportunities for its pupils via innovative architecture. BAM Construction, the main contractor for the £25m build, selected Gratte Brothers as its M&E contractor and appointed them to provide the security package for the school and associated community sports centre.
Gratte Brothers supplied and installed a full electrical package including; LV mains, sub-mains, small power, lighting, mechanical systems, ventilation, hot and cold systems, above-ground drainage, an energy centre, solar thermal capture, BMS, water treatment, insulation and accompanying security requirements, fire alarms, CCTV, access control, a disabled refuge and intruder alarms.
Spread over five school blocks and 157,000 sq ft, the campus had been passed by the council to architects Walter and Cohen to produce a stimulating space. This required the installation of a sophisticated BMS and network installation – something Gratte Brothers’ accredited Design & Coordination team was perfectly equipped to execute. The team appraises, configures and commissions successful, multi-system disciplines and integrated client networks.
The scale of transformation had to be tackled in conjunction with a highly built-up area and the school’s term pattern, requiring heightened safety awareness and traffic management logistics.
To ensure a successful project, Gratte Brothers nurtured close relationships at the earliest stage of the build, starting with the consultants, all the way through to investing commissioning time with the school caretaker to ensure fruitful equipment deployment.
The project itself has been awarded multiple RIBA accolades specifically noting the pupil benefits.
